Two Lamps (by Safwan Chishti)
Note from the author: I hope the ghazal below can bring some Interfaith peace.
In the hush of dawn, two prayers rise, one sky, one light.
The names are different, yet both call toward the One Light.
Scrolls and Surahs hum the same ancient breath of awe,
Moses and Muhammad walk beneath the same Sun Light.
From olive groves of peace to desert winds of grace,
both hearts bow eastward, tracing love’s spun light.
The candle in the temple, the lantern in the mosque
both shimmer gold upon the soul’s begun light.
Faith is not division, but a mirror softly turned;
each face reflects the other’s run light.
And I, humble poet, whisper what both already know:
Two lamps, one flame, forever One Light.
